The main treatment for varicose veins and spider veins is to close the vein so the blood no longer flows through that vein. This can be done with a laser or radiofrequency heat or a chemical called a sclerosant. A new Federal Drug Administration (FDA)-approved treatment for varicose veins is Venaseal™. It uses a patented medical adhesive directed into the vein to seal it closed. It reduces the risk of nerve injury associated with some heat-based treatments, and there is no tumescent anesthesia required.
What is the Procedure?
When you have a consultation with our vein specialist, your veins will be examined with ultrasound imaging. This will help us see exactly which veins are diseased and the extent of the damage. It will also help our team plan the procedure.
Our specialist will explain each step of the procedure to you. The main points are:
• The area will be numbed
• A small tube or catheter will be inserted into the vein
• The catheter will be placed to best deliver the medical adhesive
• After the adhesive is inserted, the catheter is removed
After the Treatment
Our specialist will instruct you about your healing time. With Venaseal™, you will not need to take a bunch of time off from work to heal. Our specialist will give you any specific instructions you need to follow for optimal results.
Once the varicose vein is sealed, it will look noticeably smaller at first and gradually disappear as the body absorbs the useless vein. That vein will not return, but other veins could become diseased if you don’t take care.
What Causes Varicose Veins?
The main cause of varicose veins is heredity. They tend to run in families. Other causes are a sedentary lifestyle and obesity. Whenever the heart and veins have to over-work to push the blood against gravity up your legs, the veins may become weak, and the tiny valves inside the veins that are intended to stop the blood from flowing backward stop working properly. Consequently, the blood starts to accumulate in the vein, stretching it so it becomes noticeable beneath your skin.

I can walk to my mail box again
by John Neumann, patient
Category: reviews“I had problems walking to my mail box when I went to Pacific Vein Care. Dr. Conti found I had vein reflux and artery problems in both of my legs. He did his normal vein procedure on one leg and a special procedure at the hospital on the other leg and corrected the artery problems at the same time. I am very happy with the results from the procedures done at Pacific Vein Care to correct both my veins and artery problems. I can walk to my mail box again and not have to stop and rest part way there.”
I am pleased to say my quality of life is back
by Barbara Hoffman, patient
Category: reviews“For thirty Years I have put up with leg pain, throbbing and swelling due to varicose veins. At 63 years old, I made a choice to have Radiofrequency Ablation therapy and I am pleased to say my quality of life is back. I can now take long walks, exercise and stand for long period of time without discomfort. I recently purchased a pair of tall stylish boots and I can actually zip them up because I no longer suffer from edema.”
The procedures were not hard to go through and the result was a tremendous relief.

Category: reviews“I recently – April/May of 2012 – had VNUS procedures done on my right and left legs. Dr. Conti and his staff were superb in the diagnosis and treatment of my condition. The process was fully explained to me and were virtually pain free. There was some discomfort in the week or two after the procedures which were easily handled by over the counter pain medications. I was impressed with Dr. Conti’s knowledge and professionalism and would recommend anyone waiting to treat their varicose veins NOT to wait. The procedures were not hard to go through and the result was a tremendous relief.”
