Types of wrinkles and how to prevent and treat them

Close up of a fair-skinned blonde woman with perfectly smooth skin

Aging is inevitable. However, there are things that you can do to slow down its signs. Every wrinkle has its own external as well as internal cause. Here are the most common types of wrinkles and how you can prevent and treat them.

Elastotic

Elastotic wrinkles come as a consequence of the loss of elastic structure in the skin due to excessive sun exposure. These appear mainly on the upper lips, cheeks, and base of your neck and can become permanent over time. You can prevent elastotic wrinkles from becoming permanent by using sunscreen, not smoking, and avoiding too much sun. If elastotic wrinkles have become permanent, you can also correct them using BOTOX®.

Expression

Expression wrinkles appear as a result of making the same expression repeatedly. They are a collection of small moments from each time you squinted, laughed or frowned. Expression lines deepen with age since the skin loses its natural elasticity. Excess skin, excess check fat, thinning skin as well as ptosis of check fat are also frequent contributors of expression wrinkles. Unless you want to become a robot, there is not much you can do to prevent them. The best recommendable treatment, however, is BOTOX® since it weakens the muscles in the skin.

Gravitational

Gravitational wrinkles are caused by deflation of tissues above the wrinkles as a result of the effects of gravity together with the loss of collagen and elasticity due to aging. They usually look like sagging skin and are often more visible on a lean face with thinner skin than on people with a plumper face with thicker skin. You should start taking care of your skin as early as possible by eating a balanced diet, exercising and drinking lots of water instead of waiting to age before you do so. Gravitational wrinkles can be corrected by inflating the deflated areas of the skin using fat grafts or Botox.

Compression

Compression wrinkles usually form when you squish your face on your pillow during sleep. You can prevent its appearance by sleeping on your back or using special pillows that take some pressure from your skin.

Everybody reacts differently to aging. Some people begin to show signs of aging at an earlier age than others because of divergent genes. Some people seem to naturally defy signs of aging while other people seem to do everything to keep off aging, yet none of the ways seem to work. If you wish to get rid of wrinkles, BOTOX® is a suitable treatment option for you. Contact us today at Pacific Vein Care to find out more about getting BOTOX® and shed years from your face!
