Does Compression Therapy Really Work for Varicose Veins?

A woman pulling on a beige-colored compression sock as a recommended treatment for varicose veins

Varicose veins are not just unsightly. These highly visible veins just under the surface of the skin can be painful in the legs. Whether they’re painful or not, seeking treatment for varicose veins can help reduce the look of dark, spidery veins in your legs. One highly recommended treatment is compression therapy.

What Is Compression Therapy?

Compression therapy uses compression stockings to reduce the look of varicose veins. These stockings are also often used in hospitals after surgical procedures to prevent blood clots in the legs. Your care provider will tell you how often to wear these tight stockings to get the desired results.

How Does Compression Therapy Work?

It’s important to remember that each person is different and will have different results when getting treatment for varicose veins. That’s why experts at Pacific Vein Care develop personalized treatment plans for patients based on their health statuses and goals. However, compression stockings can be effective for a lot of people with varicose veins.

Compression stockings are tight so that they provide constant pressure to the legs. The goal of this pressure is to increase circulation. Increasing blood flow through the use of compression stockings can help reduce the look of varicose veins. The compression stockings can also reduce the pain that comes with the varicose veins.

Compression stockings may not completely eliminate your varicose veins on their own, depending on the severity of the condition. However, compression stockings can also be used along with other treatments, such as sclerotherapy, to make the overall treatment more effective for your health and beauty goals. Compression stockings may also be recommended to prevent future varicose veins after you’ve completed a treatment plan.

How to Try Compression Therapy

Whether used on their own or with other therapies, you can get relief from pain and a reduction in the look of your varicose veins with compression stockings. In order to stay safe and healthy, you should speak with an expert at Pacific Vein Care before wearing compression stockings. There are different types of stockings with different levels of pressure. In order to be effective, the stockings you wear should match your condition and goals.

Whether you want to start with compression therapy alone or get a comprehensive treatment plan for your varicose veins, you can call Pacific Vein Care to make an appointment. After just one phone call, you’ll be on your way to achieving your health and beauty goals and getting rid of your unsightly varicose veins. We are conveniently located in McHenry, IL.
