Are You a Perfect Candidate for Sclerotherapy?

Even though there are numerous methods for getting rid of spider and varicose veins, sclerotherapy remains a solid option you should consider. The procedure utilizes an injectable liquid that causes either large or small visible veins to fade away after some time. This treatment has been around for several decades and tends to produce permanent results.

So if you have varicose or spider veins and they’re making you uncomfortable, it may be time to consider sclerotherapy. However, you must first get tested before having the treatment as sclerotherapy is not be suitable for everyone.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

If you are in good shape health-wise, there’s no reason why you cannot get rid of spider veins through sclerotherapy. However, the doctor will have to check where your veins are located. If one of your veins is deemed essential for a potential bypass surgery of the heart in the future, the doctor not be able to treat the affected vein. Unaffected veins can be removed without any problem.

Generally, over-all health is all you are required to have to undergo sclerotherapy. One session can take between 15 and 20 minutes and you’ll be asked not to do aerobic exercises for several days after the treatment. Additionally, you may require multiple sessions in order to remove spider veins as your doctor may decide to treat one vein at a time. There are instances where the doctor can treat more than one vein in a single session. Talk to your doctor to find out which treatment method is the safest and most effective for your case.

Pregnant Women

If you’re pregnant, it’s highly likely that your doctor will turn down your request for sclerotherapy as it can cause complications to you and your unborn child.

Underlying Illnesses

To prevent complications, your doctor may disqualify you if you have any underlying conditions. They may also not treat you if you’re currently taking certain prescription drugs like blood thinners, as they prevent blood from clotting normally.
